Five Senses Healing|A Real Elderly Workshop

Elderly workshops are indeed a key focus of Wonderland's workshop series. This is because a "people-centered" approach is paramount. The difficulty level of the workshop activities should be adjusted based on the dementia level of the recruited individuals, prioritizing participants over focusing excessively on training outcomes.

For example, cognitive workshops can be conducted in appropriate settings based on the individual's level of dementia, their previous occupations, interests, abilities, and needs.

Dementia?

"My parents have recently started having trouble remembering recent events, can't recognize those closest to them, and are even becoming confused about time and space. They're having trouble even completing simple daily tasks independently..." Yes, this is one of the hallmarks of dementia.

Dementia, also known as brain dementia or dementia, is often mistaken for "Alzheimer's disease." However, there are many causes of dementia, the most common of which is Alzheimer's disease (formerly known as "Dementia"). Dementia patients experience a decline in their ability to carry out daily activities, including gradually losing recognition of their spouse and children, and becoming unable to dress, eat, or urinate. Some also experience behavioral problems such as hallucinations, delirium, and wandering.

The Causes of Dementia

The truth is, we all age. For most seniors, daily lives are centered around family. As interpersonal interactions gradually decrease, they begin to experience loneliness and difficulty adapting, which in turn leads to a decline in spatial cognition. At this stage, if seniors notice the beginnings of cognitive impairment, they often lack the awareness and means to care for themselves, struggle to regulate themselves effectively, and develop emotional problems. The gradual decline in daily living and cognitive abilities significantly reduces their quality of life. It places a heavy burden on their families and caregivers.

Therefore, different types of cognitive stimulation activities and therapeutic workshops for elderly individuals with mild and moderate dementia are essential. When these workshops/activities are not simply for passing time, but rather provide a source of intellectual and physical stimulation, they can have specific benefits:

  1. Activities serve as a form of companionship and can prevent psychiatric and behavioral symptoms;
  2. Stimulant thinking and fostering social interaction can reduce the onset of psychiatric and behavioral symptoms;精神行為症狀的出現;
  3. Elderly individuals can maintain their independence for longer;
  4. Achieve a better quality of life.

The Turkish Mosaic Lamp Workshop has shown significant results in improving spatial cognition. Creating mosaic lamps doesn't necessarily require artistic skills, nor does it depend on one's education or creative experience. What truly matters is the ability to express oneself. The mosaic lamp workshop can encourage seniors to focus on memorable moments rather than attempting to document their entire lives.

Furthermore, each mosaic requires participants to develop accurate spatial perception and judgment. The brain becomes more flexible and sensitive through continuous spatial exploration, which further strengthens hand function and trains hand muscles.

"Creating mosaics reminds me of the things that make my life more fulfilling: experiences, good moments, and difficult ones. When I piece them together, I can see how these stories connect, which is incredibly helpful for my memory."

The Turkish Mosaic Lamp Workshop always surprises us by showing that everyone is an artist, and all the finished products are imbued with artistic flair. More importantly, it truly boosts the confidence and self-esteem of those with cognitive impairments.

For caregivers, social workers, and other staff, we highly recommend the Sand Art Candle Workshop. While seemingly sensual, this beautiful work conceals countless rational calculations. A candle that offers warmth and companionship, beyond the polish of light, scent, and sound, also releases emotional attachments that others may not perceive.

Through this workshop, center staff and caregivers can learn about stress relief and emotional self-care, allowing them to gradually disconnect from the mundane demands of daily life and focus on the present moment and the subtle sounds of nature. "This activity makes me feel young again. I truly feel incredibly relaxed while using scented candles."

Of particular note, we use natural plant-based wax. The candle cups do not release harmful substances when burned. The wax is soft and made from the essence of natural plants and trees. Unlike the flameless aromatherapy of diffusers like stones or reeds, the flickering flame of a scented candle offers a unique warmth.

Cloisonné (filament enamel painting) is mainly made of imitation gold wire and enamel glaze. It is derived from the ancient cloisonné craft - a creative painting that transplants the royal court enamel technique to the drawing board.

Cloisonné paintings, commonly seen today, typically use aluminum oxide wire, pigment, and colored sand on wood, plastic, or metal panels. The resulting works combine the delicate details of fine brushwork with the realistic texture of oil painting, making them extremely popular.

These workshops on Chinese cultural craftsmanship can help seniors recall past experiences. The reflections triggered by old objects and photographs connect them to the past, allowing the memories to feel as if they haven't faded. This helps them strengthen their confidence and bring more positive emotions to their lives. More importantly, through their memories, they've expanded the art of cloisonné to two-dimensional works, creating surprising three-dimensional artistic effects.

The Fluid Painting Relaxation Workshop is a form of art therapy that penetrates deeply and expands your creativity, allowing you to discover your inner secrets and find greater possibilities. It's a profound cleansing and a profound discovery.

Participants truly set aside the distractions of life and focus entirely on the present moment. Then, they enter a state of meditation, gaining a deeper understanding of life's twists and turns. As the fragrance of tea slowly permeates their body, they reach a state of emptiness and clarity.

Life is like the pattern of plants.

The Orchid Kokedama Moss Ball Workshop is one of our favorite plant-based healing workshops. Especially when all negative thoughts and emotions are buried in the jade ball, positive, bright love is born through the orchid.

Participants experienced firsthand the delicate touch of leaves and moss, marveling at their varied textures. They took a deep breath, discerning the fragrance of flowers and grasses that permeated the air, as if immersed in a natural aromatherapy world. Closing their eyes, they listened to the birdsong and the wind, absorbing the tranquility and beauty of nature. Exploring nature through all five senses, their physical and mental perceptions were greatly enhanced.

The Succulent Mini Garden Workshop is a collaborative workshop for seniors and caregivers. They can strategically arrange succulents according to their personalities. Through the creative process, they gain an understanding of the diverse possibilities of life.

Through this process, they gain a proper understanding of each other's strengths and characteristics. These stories don't necessarily require words; they are more powerful when they touch the heart. This allows for significant time spent together, fostering mutual understanding and appreciation.

Through immersive nature experiences, seniors can find inner peace and tranquility, releasing long-accumulated loneliness and anxiety. By helping seniors release their emotions, enhance their self-awareness, and learn simple psychological adjustment methods, they can better care for themselves and integrate into the community.

Printmaking Workshop,
